Ahmed Musa, the captain of the Super Eagles, has generously donated N2 million to Kingsley Obiekwu, a member of the Atlanta '96 Dream Team, who recently revealed his financial troubles.


Although Musa did not publicly acknowledge the donation or publish it on his social media profiles, the news was confirmed to MEDIA by the former CSKA Moscow forward's close friends.

In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Awka, Obiekwu, a Member of the Order of Niger (MON), discussed his struggles.

The tall defender, who has also played for Enugu Rangers, Udoji United, and Go Ahead Eagles in the Dutch League, said that he entered the transportation industry in order to support his family.

Despite his contributions to the growth of Nigerian football, the 47-year-old former defender, who was known affectionately as Shagari during his playing days, claimed that things had not been happy since he returned to Nigeria in 2008.

Obiekwu, who is currently the coach of INGAS FC in Enugu, claims that in order to make ends meet, he must combine his coaching duties with his work in commercial transportation.

He added that it had been challenging for him because his former colleagues owing him a total of almost N6 million.

I am a professional transporter, and I have nothing to conceal. To support his family, a man must act legally.

In an interview with NAN, he stated, "I have four children at Enugu State University of Technology, and my last child is in primary five.

Not the first occasion

Musa has a long history of generosity, having provided similar grants in the past as well as scholarships and other forms of aid to those in need.

During the most recent Africa Cup of Nations, which Cameroon hosted, the Super Eagles captain made another donation to the construction of a mosque in Garoua, which grabbed headlines a few weeks ago.
